Our Journey

The Story Behind Spiral Spice Co

From the very beginning of my botanical explorations, I was drawn to the histories behind herbs and spices — how they were used, where they came from, and why they mattered. That sense of wonder has only grown stronger over time. With Spiral Spice, I want to share that feeling with the world — to spark a deeper connection between you and the ingredients in your kitchen. Because when you know more about what you’re cooking with, the experience becomes richer, more rooted, and more alive.

We specialize in sourcing place-based botanicals — herbs and spices that hold a deep connection to the regions they come from and the people who cultivate them. These ingredients are not commodities; they’re cultural treasures with flavor, story, and soul. Like a spiral, these plants pull us inward, back to the source — of taste, of tradition, and of our history as humans.

What Makes Us Unique

Experience the difference with our commitment to quality, sustainability, and storytelling in every product we offer.

Thoughtful Sourcing

We work closely with small-scale growers, cooperatives, and regional producers to build meaningful, transparent relationships that support both tradition and sustainability.

Distinctive Ingredients

Every spice and botanical we offer is chosen for its story, origin, and standout flavor — a true sense of place in every jar.

Uncompromising Quality

We strive for organic whenever possible and always prioritize the highest-quality ingredients — fresh-ground herbs, hand-harvested spices, and small-batch sourcing.

About Me

Hi, I’m Franklin — a spice lover, natural foods nerd, and curious wanderer. I’ve spent the past decade working in the organic and natural food industry, doing everything from sales to organic certification to storytelling. Along the way, I’ve traveled across Latin America, Asia, Europe, and the U.S., always with my eyes (and nose) open for new herbs, spices, and culinary traditions. I’ve worked on farms in 5 different continents, and gotten lost in more bazaars then I can remember. These travels have taught me that the most powerful flavors come with a story — and that the people growing these ingredients are often the real magic behind them.

I’m now based in the Pacific Northwest, and Spiral Spice Co. is the next step in a long-running journey of building mission-driven food projects. I look forward to sharing my passion with you. When I am not spice hunting, I enjoy metalworking as The Mystic Smith, and supporting my lovely wife in her garden tours at Over The Fence.
